Wanderlust is defined as a very strong or irresistible impulse to travel. My wanderlust usually kicks in about midweek, when I’m struggling to finish my week’s objectives while simultaneously planning my weekend adventures.

While I usually stick to writing about life on the French Riviera on C’est Christine, this round-up will feature the coolest travel blog posts that I’ve found in the past week. Picks will vary from the truly practical to those that are simply inspirational or awe-inducing. Without further ado, I present to you…the first edition of Wanderlust Wednesday.

The practical pick: While I never indulged in the typical “spring break,” the pictures of breezy beaches in Travel Advice: All-Inclusive Spring Break by Adventurous Kate makes me wish I had. If you are contemplating a spring break or perhaps a graduation trip with friends, Kate gives some great advice on saving and choosing a resort, and also offers some fun destination options that are bit more creative than just pounding tequila shots in Tijuana.

Can I book my ticket now? : As soon as I read the words “adrenaline junkie’s dream,” I was hooked. In Maoris and Mud Pools in New Zealand, Travel Junkie Julia describes the activity options on New Zealand’s North Island, ranging from the blasé bungee jumping and luging to caving with glow worms and zorbing in a giant plastic hamster ball. Lest you dismiss Rotoura to the adventure-seekers, Julia points out that the small town is a rare spot to learn about the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. New Zealand just rocketed to the top of my “must-see” destination list.

Social media DOES rock: If you’re a Twitter convert (and following @DIWYY, of course!), you’ve probably noticed those #TNI hashtags that take over your feed every Thursday. If you’re still not convinced that the world operates in 140 characters, you might be missing out on some awesome travel tips and anecdotes if you don’t know about Traveler’s Night In. Either way, How to travel at home…on Twitter gives a great sum-up about #TNI and why it’s such a cool interaction of the travel community. Get your stories about traveling in your hometown ready for tomorrow’s #TNI!

Start planning for 2011: Although I’m originally from Northern California, I’ve only recently started paying attention to all the crazy festivals coming out of San Francisco. They generally involve a lot of nudity, a good amount of alcohol and more goodwill, happiness and creativity than you can imagine. Case in point: Bay to Breakers. An out-of-towner sums up his recent experiences in “Running” San Francisco’s Bay to Breakers–and has a video to boot!

Why tourist guilt isn’t all bad: Is the most authentic town always the best traveling option? Are we travel sell-outs if we prefer the more touristy options? It can be a tough question, especially when it comes down to safety. Authenticity and a Town I Just Shouldn’t Like makes some interesting points as to why the town overrun with tourists is sometimes the better option than the “real” culture.

This weekend, I’ll be dreaming of New Zealand adrenaline rushes and the spring breaks that could have been. What about you?
